Initial Training
Sport Pilot - "2004: New FAA Sport Pilot and Light-Sport Aircraft Rules Revolutionize Aviation"
"...The new rule allows more people to live their dream to fly by providing an easier, less expensive way for people to fly. It allows existing pilots to use their driver's license as medical eligibility for LSA flight. The airplanes use modern technology and are more fuel efficient..."
In an article in NAFI magazine December 2009, Woods explains, "It's important to understand what sport pilot is about. It's about getting back to fundamentals: stick and rudder, pilotage, dead reckoning, and good aeronautical decision-making. In other words, sport pilot is about good old flying fun, with a tremendous focus on basic skills. In an industry where technically advanced aircraft and information overload is the norm, Light Sport Aircraft are an opportunity to experience flying the way it was meant to be - a stick in one hand, the ground beneath, a smile on your face, and the affordability to do it again and again."
Private Pilot -
The traditional flight certificate requiring mastery of the aircraft and proficiency of flight skills to the highest standards. Private Pilots can fly larger aircraft, may fly on business trips (but not as paid pilots), can fly at night, and can carry as many passengers as their aircraft will hold. A Private Pilot can later earn the privilege to fly through diminishing weather with an instrument rating. The Private Pilot license is typically the first step for pilots who desire to fly professionally.
Professional Pilot -
The commercial Pilot Certificate is the first professional license earned. As a commercial pilot, you can fly professionally for hire. Customized training programs for the professional pilot are available.
Recurrent Training
Safe, Confident and Current! - The FAA has always encouraged ongoing proficiency training, of course, but only recently have insurance companies started to put teeth into that concept by dictating more training in exchange for affordable coverage.
Join ProFlight's ongoing recurrent training program exploring real world topics in the cockpit. Become proficient in the knowledge and skills required to successfully plan and execute a trip in weather, such as pre-flight planning, take-off and departure, en route operations , and approach and landing. Other tasks might include getting a proper weather briefing, realistic fuel planning, and handling complex clearances. Scenarios are realistic avioding nightmare situations such as "there I was with an engine failure in a thunderstorm when my radios quit."
Serious pilots welcome the structured schedule of Safe, Confident and Current! in maintaining their proficiency. This ProFlight program keeps you current with constantly changing FAA regulations and dynamic flying environment. All flight reviews and IFR proficiency checks are integrated into the program.
A guiding philosophy of Safe, Confident, and Current! is setting your own personal minimums, because those are the basis for much of IFR risk management.
